For The Brother I Always Needed During the Holidays.
For quite a number of years, I've been the misfit of my own family, and had not celebrated the holiday season with them. Seldom feeling appreciated, and being stuck carrying in everyone bags of stuff, or delegated to the dish pit while everyone got drunk, there was no sense of family for me anymore when I went to visit them. I had been reduced to a servant with little more than another pair of black socks to go home with, was the way it felt. So I stopped attending.
So then I met Avery, who introduced me to his Son, Miles. And the two of them gave me more warmth, acknowledgement and appreciation than I ever had in my own family. This last year, Miles went out of his way to come and visit me, which is something that no one had ever done for me during the holidays, and he gifted me this awesome t-shirt for Christmas. And I'll be wearing it for every Christmas from now on, in honour of him and the brotherhood we shared.
Now, after his passing into the next world, I feel honour bound to do this for others, and be the brother they always needed in times when they had nothing, and no one to call family. I know just how it feels to be alone for the holidays, and it's not something that you go through lightly. That sense of belonging is so underrated, and so necessary for our personal and collective growth, that I aim to be there for others for the Holidays. Though if my blood family is expecting me to extend that to them, while ignoring or subjugating those who have no one, then they have got another thing coming - Like watching me be a brother to those who are left all alone during the holidays, and made to feel guilty for it, rather than uplifted and liberated by a sense of belonging, that I am more than happy and capable of offering to those who truly need it.
Thank you for inspiring me to be a brother, Miles MacKay. That gift is the greatest gift I could ever hope for. May you find your way gracefully to the Halls of Valhalla. And when my time is over here on this Earth, we will celebrate endlessly, info infinity and beyond. My Sword and my Shield are yours to command. ❤️🔥
